Complementary Therapy Blog – December 2016

Hi everyone,

We hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New Year. Were you spoiled rotten?

20161106_085718December saw a hive of activity and functions to attend. At the beginning of December I enlisted and attended a weekend course at the Christie Hospital in Manchester where they have many therapists that have helped patients on their recovery journeys. They run many courses to support and encourage other therapists to provide Complementary Therapy services in clinical settings. Lots of information on how to ensure that the service you are providing is sustainable. We had a good weekend and different therapy providers came from all different parts of the country to attend the course. Helen Murphy was our lovely tutor for the weekend and she is the Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Manager for the Christie based at Oldham.

Lots more interviews were carried out in all the Renal Units as the project is a roll-over project. So many therapists are keen to give up their precious time in order to help others. We have 28 Volunteers on our register with 10 in situ at the various sites.

December also saw the Young Adults Conference: Setting up services for young People. We were invited to attend this event by Dr Tina Chrysochou who was hosting the event. We supplied therapy treatments for all who attended on the day’s conference. Many young adults had stories of their long journeys from paediatrics to Young adults and then onto adult renal services. Some of them had many struggles to endure on their life’s journey, having had renal failure from being infants growing up right the way through to their late teens. We had so much admiration for the young adults having suffered chronic illness most of their lives. How brave they were!
