BLOG July 2018
We celebrated a lovely day with the nursing staff for Nurses Day on May 11th and had therapists in Salford, Wigan, Bolton and Oldham carrying out therapies for our wonderful hardworking dedicated staff. The feedback from the staff was wonderful and they thoroughly enjoyed their day of celebrations.

The Holistic Health Show was held the weekend of Sunday 20th May.
Every year, Birmingham welcomes thousands of therapy professionals to Holistic Health held at the NEC in May. Visitors not only had the opportunity to see the latest seasonal therapy launches but also enjoy free educational experiences including the Holistic Health Demo Stage, ABT Seminar Programme and Spa Live Stage Holistic Health hosted the ever-popular Chill Out Zone, offering taster treatments to visitors whilst raising money for a therapy based charity. One of the Exhibitors whose first time at the show was from Harrogate who is NHS funded. The Natural Health School provides Complementary Therapies in the clinical environment along with providing training of various therapy diplomas. It was so interesting listening to how they work within the NHS in Harrogate. We exchanged contact details and will definitely keep in touch.

National Volunteer Week was held week 1-7th June. Salford had lots of activities including putting on afternoon tea and presenting awards to show our Volunteers how much they mean to us. Our Renal therapists were spoilt and we gave each unit a lovely card and chocolates to share.

Also in June was the Masterclass Workshop at London University in Ealing with a Salvatore Battaglia from Australia. He is one of the most leading authorities in Aromatherapy and has had several books published. The workshop was so informative and inspiring – myself and Janet one of our therapists from Wigan were buzzing with enthusiasm.

I arranged a Workshop and a talk from our Renal Psychologists Amy Waugh and Hannah Tray nor. They delivered such a fab presentation on what effect dialysis has on the renal patient and the psychological impact of having chronic kidney disease. Our volunteer therapists had highlighted this is an area where they wanted to better understand what things feel like for patients. 13 of our therapists attended from the 5 units that we cover. They thoroughly enjoyed the day. They all gained a certificate for attending. I also used this session to give out cards and thank-you gifts for the therapists that have been with us for a while, working delivering treatments for the patients whilst they are on dialysis. Can you believe that now there are therapists that have been with us for over 2 years!; We are so lucky to have them giving up their valuable time to deliver therapies on dialysis and want to make sure they know how much their contribution is valued.
I’m very pleased to say we have had 4 more interviewed for the post of Complementary Therapist on the Renal Dialysis Unit and 2 new therapists have gone through the processing and have joined our team. A huge welcome to Ruth Thompson based at Oldham and Viv Cooper who started in July at Salford.
