Just some of the great homemade food on India Day

Just some of the great homemade food on India Day

At Bolton Dialysis Unit we have set up our own KPA with both staff and patients on the committee.
We hold various events including the the recent Trinidad and Tobago Day and the India Day. The idea was to have a day of food and culture at the unit from the different countries that people on the unit originate from, both staff and patients. People would bring food in and decorate the waiting area, even dressing up.
It is a good way of bringing everyone closer together and with the great food we have had, makes a welcome change from the cardboard sandwiches.
Other events they have put on in the past include Summer Fayres and Christmas parties, which gives a chance for patients, staff and families to have a great time and also get to know one another outside the hospital environment.
There are more events planned on Sunday 6th April, there will be a Renal Race Day, at Hardy Hall in Little Lever, Bolton, a Summer Fayre at Rumworth Hall, Bolton on 8th June.
Obviously these events cost, and we use these to raise money for future events.
Having been a patient for many years, this amount of staff and patient participation was very seldom seen, but i believe since hearing of what we have been doing, other units are also doing similar things. I know that at Rochdale they held a Pakistan Day. This can only be good for moral within the units and i hope it can spread about the region.
If anyone would like details on the Race Day please don’t hesitate to contact me.
