NHS England has produced some commissioning guidelines for Living Donor Reimbursement. The purpose of the reimbursement of expenses to the living donor is to ensure that the donor is not left out of pocket by donating a kidney. The reimbursement is designed to ensure the donation is ‘cost neutral’ to the donor and does not constitute a payment for the donation. There is also provision with the guidelines for the reimbursement of expenses for a living donation from someone who lives abroad.
